Skateboards are purchased everyday around the world. But when the Girls is NOT a 4 Letter Word skateboard is purchased, it makes a difference by supporting the future of girls through skateboarding.
Cindy Whitehead is spreading the message that being a girl is a positive thing. In a world that often says, “you’re pretty good, for a girl”, she helps girls know that it is not a putdown to be labeled a girl. Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word.
Working with Dusters California and Dwindle Distribution, and bringing in Longboarding for Peace, Cindy has created the Girl is NOT a 4 Letter Word complete cruiser skateboard. Already available around the country, this skateboard not only fosters a positive message to females, it also supports growing a better future for girls through skateboarding.
For every board sold, Cindy donates 100% of her personal profits from the sales to Girls Riders Organization (GRO) to support GRO in inspiring, educating, and supporting girls through action sports.
“GRO is honored that Cindy Whitehead, a true legend and inspiration for girl skaters, included the organization both on the skateboard graphic and in her message. The donations have already made a significant impact on our organization. Through her support, GRO has been able to build community chapters that increase the reach to more females than was ever possible before.” Courtney Payne Taylor, Founder, GRO
Skateboarding and action sports participation is growing rapidly with girls of all ages starting to ride. Skateboarding builds confidence, provides a positive outlet, and helps keep girls active longer in life. Skateboarding inspires girls to believe in themselves and empowers girls to know they are capable to do anything they set their mind to.
The GN4LW board and message have already been included in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History’s sports collections and shared through Cindy’s recent TED x Talk – and that’s just the beginning. The skateboard will be available through the end of the year and continues making an incredible impact on GRO’s opportunities for girls.
About Cindy Whitehead/Girl is NOT A 4 Letter Word
“Live life balls to the wall. Do epic shit. Take every dare that comes your way. You can sleep when you’re dead”. This is the personal motto of Cindy Whitehead.
She conquered the male dominated profession of pro vert skateboarding in the 70’s, and quickly became one of the top ranked professional female vert skateboarders in the U.S. for pool riding and half-pipe. To this day, Cindy still holds the distinction of being the only female to be featured in the centerfold plus a two-page article in a skateboarding magazine, and is the only female skateboarder to have been sponsored by Puma.
Since then, Cindy has gone on to coin the term “Sports Stylist®,” working as a fashion stylist specializing in sports, with companies like Gatorade, Nike, the NBA, and athletes such as Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant and Mia Hamm.
Girls Riders Organization, Inc. (GRO) is a 501c3 organization founded to inspire, educate and support girls of all ages through skateboarding, snowboarding and other action. From 2006 thru 2013 GRO conducted national tours reaching about 40 states per year with free, female focused, learn to ride workshops, teaching over 5,500 girls to ride and how to teach others to ride.
In 2014, the addition of GRO Riders and GRO Crews working as leaders on the community level brought increased accessibility, ongoing inspiration and support to cities in almost half the states across the country. GRO is a locally focused, nationally connected network telling girls they are important, they are capable and they matter in order to create a more positive and open environment for females that extends beyond just action sports.
