Rome snowboards and GRO SNOW teamed up with Stevens Pass for the First Annual LADIES DAY AT STEVENS!!!

We had 40 pre registered ladies from 3years old to 52 and another 40 sign up on the mountain.We were sooo stoked on this much excitement for a first time event!

We had girls visiting from other mountains within Washington and even a couple friends from India who are here working and saw the web site and decided to join. We started the night before with a sleep over with Megan Middleton our Stevens Pass/Rome pro and then started up to the mountain for muffins and Rockstar Latte’s to start our amazing day. The weather was a bit on the wet side but it sure didn’t dampen the spirits of this troop of ladies. Lunch rally found us chowing down on PB& J sandwiches and LOTS of Rockstar’s new PINK!!!!

Lots of encouragement and laughs as new friends were made and old friends had more fun than they had before.Everyone said they improved their skills for having other ladies to ride with. Everyone took off for a few more runs and then gathered for raffles and goodie bags. A New Rome snowboard and a $250.00 Zumiez gift card were the hot items that were awarded as well as beanies, bags and lots of FUN~

I think for a FIRST this was one overwhelmingly POSITIVE time for All.

The Event: An informal event for ladies that ride. The event is free (must purchase lift ticket if a non-pass holder). Sleepover the night before for those interested, free ride to and from the mountain, and photographer on-hill to capture the fun.

Date: February 6th, 2011
Time: Monroe Safeway @ 7am (for those not doing the sleepover)

Purpose: To round up as many ladies as possible to let loose and shred. The female industry is growing in the NW and Rome Team Rider, Megan Middleton, Rome, and GRO (Girls Riders Org) want to give these ladies a reason to get together, meet new faces, and rip the mountain. Riding with all females puts motivation and progression into a whole different element – that’s exactly what we want to share with each lady over through this event. The girls will walk away with shwag from sponsors, possibly a new riding buddy (or a few), and hopefully several adrenaline rushes that push their riding ability to new levels.

Game Plan (Feb 6th):
* Carpool and caravan party to the pass
* Breakfast in the lodge/discounted lift tickets for those needing them
* Full-day of shred
* Photographer shooting the event
* Schwag bags for all ladies to walk away with
* Carpool and caravan party home

Did anyone hear about Kelly Clark at Winter X? In case you didn’t, on the 27th she landed the 1080 in X Games practice.

Then won Snowboard SuperPipe Gold

After a first-run score of 92.33 secured the win, she used her third and final run as a victory lap, threw the 1080 and rode away clean. – ESPN

Our [Kelly Clark Foundation] Scholarships are available to snowboarders looking to pursue excellence in athletics and academics through the attendance of mountain schools. Criteria include level of athletic commitment and financial need. Applicants must complete the Scholarship Application by June 30th.

[O'Neill Evolution 2011 Halfpipe FINALS] “Local Davos hero Christian Haller and American halfpipe star Kelly Clark took top honours at the O’Neill Evolution Halfpipe finals in a spectacular day of snowboarding action.

The Women’s event saw a different show with Kelly Clark dominating throughout – and the crowd gathered at the bottom of the Jakobshorn loving every move.

“I’ve never been here before,” said Kelly. “But it’s great. Having another first place let alone at a 6star is just great!”

The 27 year old American continues to push women’s riding, her second run consisting of a Frontside 900, Backside 540 Mute, Frontside 720, Indy and Cab 720 Mute.

“The sport is progressing and I just feel honoured to be part of that and part of shaping that,” said Kelly. “I love competing. I thrive in this environment. It causes me to rise to the occasion and have great riding come out. I don’t see myself slowing down any time soon,” she said.

Behind her was the 19 year old Slovenian rider Cilka Sadar in second and the Norwegian rider Kjersti Ostgaard Buaas in third.

“It’s great to finish in the top three of this 6Star TTR event,” said Kjersti. “I found it hard today because of the flat light. I didn’t get to do the tricks I had wanted to, but it’s still a good birthday present for two days ago!”
