1. Tell me about Meekster Brau.
Meekster Brau’s conception came about in 1984 in Keith Meek’s backyard in Santa Cruz. Meekster Brau, is that it’s not trying real hard in the rat race, and it’s not about competition; it’s just roots skateboarding. Everyone on the team is in it for the fun, the buddies and the culture, and to be a part of the Meekste Brau fam.

2. Are you the only girl on the team?
Yes. There are some gnarly legends on the team. I don’t even try to understand how I could end up on a team with Keith “Meekster” Meek, Rick Blackhart, Mark Partain, and Jason “Weeman” Acuna. The variety of characters between Blackhart and his oh so loved black-hearted heckles, Partain’s nonstop cartoon noises, Meekster and his chainsaws, and then of course Weeman, is just insane. We’d make a pretty fun road trip crew! Or a cartoon series??? We have other newer additions to the team too: Aaron Arno, Bushka Vidal, Richard Kirby, Ryan Carpenter, and Beau Godfrey.
3. How did you get going with Meeksterbrau?
Remembering how rad his graphic was, and seeing him come in here and there at the park where I host GRO and other events, I asked Meekster to sponsor the all-girls Skate-it-Up Contest that I hosted for the City of San Jose at LCRSP last year. Then he asked to sponsor me. I was so stoked on him because he was so enthusiastic about supporting what the girls have going on in skateboarding today.
So I told Meekster that it’s okay if the beer isn’t still around, because the girls are pretty young and would probably love to get a hold of any meeksterbrau product. So he ended up really hooking it up for the girls. He put so much heart into prize packs that he put together.
4. Anything else?
With less pressure from sponsors to travel and compete this year, I was able to free-skate while I focused on completing a BSN at SFSU with my current Clinical placement at Stanford Hospital. In a few months I will hopefully become an RN to compliment my recent Architectural Doctorate degree (Arch.d). Sometimes in the psych ward, when patients are supposed to be disclosing things about themselves, I disclose that I am a skateboarder..ha. San Jose, CA GRO Sessions are on through the rest of the year and are now sponsored by Meekster Brau! Check out our flyer on the GRO Website!
